The government of Montserrat is placing renewed focus on technical and vocational education to improve learning outcomes.

The government of Montserrat is placing renewed focus on technical and vocational education as part of wider efforts to improve learning outcomes across schools.

Speaking on recent education initiatives, Education Minister Dr. The Hon. Ingrid Buffong said work is underway to strengthen the technical arm of both the secondary school and the college by September.
She said that alongside the expansion of vocational education, the ministry is also working to improve literacy and numeracy at learning institutions. The ministry is working with Dr Sammy Joseph, a numeracy expert, to improve math education.
Progress is also continuing in special education support services, with a special education coordinator now in place and plans for a speech and language therapist and behavioural therapist. The ministry is also looking at having a literacy specialist soon.
What This Means for Montserrat ResidentsStudents will have expanded access to technical and vocational training, improving career readiness.
Enhanced literacy and numeracy programs will strengthen foundational skills across all schools.
Special education support is expanding with new specialist positions to better serve students with diverse needs.
