On the eve of this milestone, a panel featuring prominent figures from the Osborne family, including Shirley Osborne, David Osborne, and Dr Brenda Osborne, gathered to reflect on the enduring impact of the late politician. The discussion highlighted not only his political achievements but also his profound contributions as a community leader and family man. Shirley Osborne, his daughter, took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of community collaboration, a value her father championed throughout his life.

“He didn't do this alone,” Shirley remarked. “The idea of community was paramount to him. Looking after one another and helping each other rise is what Montserrat needs to remember today.” This sentiment rings especially true as Montserrat faces ongoing economic and societal challenges.

"His contribution to Montserrat is inarguable... It's important that people remember that, especially now in Montserrat, with the situation we are in right now."

📊 Project Details

  • Commemoration event scheduled for May 27, 2026.
  • Panel discussion featuring family and community leaders.
  • Focus on the importance of community collaboration and support.

This year’s tribute is particularly poignant, as it invites the younger generation to learn about Osborne's legacy: a legacy that shaped the political landscape of Montserrat and left an indelible mark on its people. The founder of the People's Liberation Movement (PLM), which eventually evolved into the Progressive Democratic Party (PDM), Osborne is remembered not only for his political acumen but also for his deep commitment to the welfare of his community.

As the panel engaged in heartfelt reminiscences, it became clear that John Alfred Osborne was more than just a politician; he was a father, a friend, and a guiding force in the lives of many Montserratians. The discussion served as a reminder of the values he espoused: unity, strength, and resilience - qualities that are essential for the community's recovery from the challenges it currently faces.

What This Means for Montserrat Residents

This tribute serves as a vital reminder of the importance of community in navigating contemporary challenges.

It encourages residents to come together, fostering a spirit of cooperation to uplift one another.

Lastly, it inspires a renewed commitment to civic engagement, ensuring that the legacy of leaders like Osborne continues to influence future generations.
