Minor Earthquake Shakes Montserrat
MVO confirms activity remains normal. No cause for concern.
Quick Facts
Residents across Montserrat felt a noticeable tremor on Saturday night. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) confirmed a volcano-tectonic earthquake occurred near the Soufrière Hills Volcano.
The earthquake was felt in several areas around the island. Residents described a brief but distinct shaking sensation. While unsettling, the MVO maintains extensive monitoring networks including seismic stations, gas monitoring, and ground deformation sensors. The Soufrière Hills Volcano has been actively monitored since its devastating eruptions in the 1990s. The MVO has maintained world-class surveillance systems since then to ensure early warning of any significant changes. What This Means for ResidentsNo evacuation orders are in place. No special precautions are needed. Stay informed through official MVO channels and review emergency plans as standard practice. Source: ZJB Radio Montserrat |
