The Montserrat Red Cross has officially launched the design and development phase of a Cash and Voucher Assistance Programme (CVA) for Montserrat. This important initiative was launched on Friday May 8th, coinciding with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, at the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) conference room in Yellow Hill. Quick Facts
The day was observed under the meaningful theme, "On the side of humanity," reflecting the Red Cross's commitment to supporting communities during challenging times. The CVA programme is designed to provide cash and vouchers to individuals and families after an emergency, giving them the flexibility to meet their own prioritized needs. This approach empowers recipients to make decisions about what they need most, whether it's food, shelter, medical supplies, or other essential items. Speaking at the launch, Delmaude Ryan, Director of the Montserrat Red Cross, provided detailed information about this phase of the programme. She emphasized that many stakeholders will be engaged throughout the process to ensure the programme meets the needs of the community effectively. The design and development phase will involve careful planning and consultation with community members, government agencies, and other partners. This collaborative approach ensures that when the programme is fully implemented, it will be well-suited to address the specific needs of Montserrat's residents during emergency situations.
